Meet Shanta Bai Pawar, lovingly known as Ajji by her children.
Akshaya Tritiya is a day that symbolizes prosperity and endless giving. Akshaya means which never diminishes”. And in Ajji, that word has found its truest form. Her love has never diminished. Her strength has never diminished.
Every day, 89-year-old Ajji wakes up, cooks, gets ready, picks up her two sticks, and steps out, not for herself, but for the 20 children who depend on her for their next meal.
We celebrate Akshaya Tritiya by investing in what truly matters, because what we give today is what we receive tomorrow. Ajji has spent 89 years giving everything she had. This year, it's time we give something back to her.
A Life of Unending Responsibility
Ajji lost her husband when she was just 40, and life has never stopped testing her since. Her elder son passed away, and soon after, her daughter-in-law abandoned their children. Tragedy struck again when her younger daughter-in-law died during childbirth, and her younger son, who suffers from epilepsy, was left unable to work.
In the span of a few years, Ajji found herself caring for 16 grandchildren, each depending on her for love, food, and shelter. Yet, she managed to care for every single soul in her house.
A Burden She Still Bears
Despite fate testing her strength, Ajji walks out every day with two sticks in her hands. Stepping into the world for the survival of her and her children.
At an age where she should be resting, she carries responsibilities. Responsibilities of marrying her children - 6 daughters and 5 sons. But carrying such a heavy responsibility alone has become increasingly difficult for Ajji.
This Akshaya Tritiya, help Ajji
Ajji has spent a lifetime being someone else's Akshaya. She never asked for anything in return. Her body is tired. Her steps are slow. But her heart still refuses to stop fighting for her family.
